Emerging Technologies Improve Aquaculture Data Systems in Bangladesh

Like many low- and medium-income countries, Bangladesh struggles to maintain accurate official statistics on aquaculture production because of the costly and time-intensive nature of data collection as well as the industry’s rapid growth. The Fish Innovation Lab is working with partners in Bangladesh to use emerging technologies like remote sensing and machine learning to improve the speed, cost, and effectiveness of aquaculture data collection.

Improving the Efficiency of Aquaculture Farms in Nigeria

Otomiewo was one of 40 fish-farming cluster heads who attended a series of meetings organized by WorldFish and the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish (Fish Innovation Lab) in September 2020 in Delta and Ogun states. The meetings introduced fish farmers to a Fish Innovation Lab project focused on improving efficiency in Nigeria’s aquaculture sector through lean production systems.

Results and Findings from SecureFish Team

The SecureFish team has released an executive summary of findings and results from a study of nutrition, especially in young children, in fisher families along the Kenya Coast. Results also indicate opportunities for improvements in fish value chain activities and sustainable fishing practices in the area.

Cryogenic Sperm Banking for Carps Project Holds Inception Workshop in Bangladesh

Results and Findings from Zambia Feeds Team

The Zambia Feeds team has released an executive summary of findings and results from a feed trial studying the effects of an alternative feed ingredient to fishmeal in tilapia aquaculture. Replacing fishmeal as a feed ingredient could help producers save on costs and contribute to more sustainable practices in aquaculture.
