The Genome Sequencing team has released an executive summary of findings and results. The study sequenced the rohu genome and identified DNA variations that can be correlated with measured physical traits (such as growth rate) to accelerate and improve the effectiveness of breeding programs.

The Fish4Zambia team has released an executive summary of findings and results from a study of men and women fishers, processors, and sellers at Zambia’s Lake Bangweulu. Results indicate significant differences in reported household-level hunger among women as compared to men and significant gender differences across a range of income-generating activities, asset ownership, and decision-making power.
Free Online Course Explains the Role of Gender in Agricultural Development
A new online course developed for the Feed the Future Soybean Innovation Lab and featuring work from the Fish Innovation Lab introduces participants to the important role gender plays in agricultural development, including aquaculture and fisheries sectors. The course was developed by the Fish Innovation Lab’s gender and youth equity specialist, Kathleen Ragsdale, and colleague Mary Read-Wahidi.
Quick Start Projects Yield Lessons for Gender-Responsive Aquaculture and Fisheries Activities

Improving Capacity in Bangladesh to Detect Fecal Pathogens in Aquaculture
The Fish Innovation Lab project on Evaluation of Risk and Mitigation of Aquaculture Fecal Pathogens organized lectures and a hands-on training for eight participants from the Bangladesh Department of Fisheries Quality Control Laboratory and the National Food Safety Laboratory of the Government of Bangladesh’s Institute of Public Health. After receiving the training, the participants were excited to initiate activities in their own laboratories.

The Fish Innovation Lab is working with partners in Bangladesh to use emerging technologies like remote sensing and machine learning to improve the speed, cost, and effectiveness of aquaculture data collection.
