Youth Employment in Aquaculture Value Chain (Wholesale Market)

Video produced by the Machine Learning for Better Aquaculture project

The “Harnessing Machine Learning to Estimate Aquaculture Production and Value Chain Performance in Bangladesh” project notes that densely populated Bangladesh communities are increasingly creating employment opportunities for youth through the aquaculture value chain.

In the Bagerhat community of Bangladesh, about half of the workers in the Barakpur wholesale market is youth. Additionally, the project team noted that more food safety and hygiene practices have been adopted in the fish market such as stainless-steel tables for shrimp grading and setting up ice factories adjacent to the market to keep the prawn and shrimp from spoiling.
